Dr. Jason Ko

Dr. Jason Ko is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgery, in addition to complex extremity reconstruction. With specialized training in orthopedic hand and wrist surgery, in addition to microvascular reconstruction, Dr. Ko is able to provide the full spectrum of innovative solutions to even the most complex problems that patients face after cancer or trauma.

Dr. Ko is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, with additional certification in hand surgery, and he is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Ko is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, with additional appointment in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is also the Program Director of the Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Northwestern, one of the premier plastic surgery training programs in the country.

Dr. Ko graduated from Duke University, where he majored in Economics with minors in philosophy and chemistry. After graduating from Duke, Dr. Ko received a prestigious J. William Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in South Korea, after which he returned to Duke University School of Medicine, where he was first introduced to the concept of “orthoplastic” surgery. Dr. Ko then completed the seven-year integrated plastic surgery residency at Northwestern University, during which he was awarded the distinguished Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF) Fellowship for research on Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR). Dr. Ko then completed the orthopedic Hand and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, after which he was hired onto the faculty at the University of Washington within both the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Ko spent four years on faculty in Seattle, where he worked primarily at Harborview Medical Center, one of the busiest trauma centers in the entire US, where the most challenging injuries from five states in the Pacific Northwest, including Alaska, were sent to be treated. Dr. Ko was recruited back to Northwestern University in 2016 to start a practice specializing in brachial plexus and peripheral nerve reconstruction, upper and lower extremity reconstruction and hand and wrist surgery.

Dr. Ko is a leader and innovator in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, and he continually strives to formulate creative solutions for complex reconstructive problems. Dr. Ko’s training and experience make him perfectly suited to treat issues involving bone, soft tissues, and/or nerves of the extremities as an expert in the field of “orthoplastic surgery.”
